McDonald's Szechuan Sauce returns for one day

In a promotion to help introduce the fast-food chain's new Buttermilk Crispy Tenders menu item, McDonald's said the Szechuan sauce will be available at its restaurant at 2853 Centre Drive across from Wright State University in Fairborn, starting at 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 7. The fast food giant will bring its Szechuan dipping sauce back to select locations this Saturday.

The flavor gained pop culture fame thanks to a mention on the Cartoon Network show "Rick and Morty", in season 3 opener. Those who want to get their hands on their own packet of Szechuan sauce can do so on October 7 at participating McDonald's locations in the United States. It's most likely that the sauce will come in little packets like McDonald's other dips and getting ahold of more than a couple might prove to be hard.

The McDonald's at 405 S.E. 131st St. will package the sauce with the sale of buttermilk chicken tenders, while supplies last. According to a report by Den of Geek, McDonald's posted a special "Szechuan Sauce" poster on its official website a few days back.

The sauce ran as a limited-time offer in 1998 to promote the Disney movie "Mulan".

Not even Dan Harmon could see a one-off joke about a limited-edition sauce from McDonald's turning into the pandemonium it is today. The show's lead character Rick Sanchez, grandfather to nervous and timid teen Morty, proclaims his love for the short-lived nugget dip.

In July, McDonald's sent a jug of Szechuan sauce to the show's co-creator Justin Roiland after finding it in "a dimension where it's always 1998".

"Look at that art, look at the font", Harmon told Polygon.

"Guys, we did it", McDonald's Chef Michael Haracz said.

This year, Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty" premiered its third season with a call for the sauce's return. Those restaurants, however, will not have the Szechaun Sauce.

Well, you handsome, fast-food-loving weirdos, it worked.
