Klopp and his team arrived at Liverpool John Lennon airport early on Monday morning ready for the flight, with Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alberto Moreno all present.

Ideally, Klopp would be in a position to rest a couple of key players ahead of another important Premier League clash next weekend - they travel to Wembley to face Tottenham on Sunday - but Liverpool can not afford to drop any more points and must be wary of Maribor, who are unbeaten in their domestic league.

The game will be the second of three in the space of eight days for Liverpool, sandwiched between last Saturday's visit of United and next Sunday's trip to Wembley to face Spurs.

Liverpool only managed to accrue two points from their opening group stage fixtures against Sevilla and Spartak Moscow respectively and now lie second in their group having scored more goals than the Russian outfit, who have also drawn both of their group games. In his view, the effect ought to have been a positive one: "The performance should lead to more confidence".

Two points from their opening two matches is not what Klopp would have expected, especially after conceding a winning position late on at home to Sevilla in their opening game.

The injury-prone England worldwide has looked a shadow of the player who scored 24 goals in 33 games in his first season at Anfield and would be fortunate to lead the line against Maribor, although Klopp may be tempted to drop Roberto Firmino to the bench ahead of another grueling schedule. They are the only team yet to pick up a card in this season's Champions League. We know this is an important moment in the group for us. "We need to be courageous and we need to be concentrated". We have to be very, very good again and take the result.

But the Reds boss declared that there was "no chance" of him making widespread alterations to the team, adding: "Everybody thinks ahead of a game like this, "this is the place where you can rotate".

"The two games we saw of Maribor were different".
