Coming soon to consumers through leading partners in the US, Japan, China and Europe, the ZTE Axon M delivers new experiences never before seen in the smartphone market. Lenovo had showcased its foldable phone as well. The new smartphone is called Axon M and bears a striking edge that differentiates it from the competition. While Samsung is due to launch its first folding screen phone next year, Apple has hinted at plans to start working with LG Display to start manufacturing foldable models after 2020.

ZTE has debuted the Axon M, its first dual-screen foldable smartphone. ZTE Mobile Devices is now doing business in more than 160 countries and regions globally. However, once users flip the phone over, they will be looking at a dual screen. "The mobile technology ecosystem and consumer habits have evolved over the past several years, but the smartphone design has only slightly varied throughout that time until today, with the introduction of the Axon M", said Lixin Cheng, CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices.

Dual Mode: Two screens for second screen multitasking.

ZTE phones further in the future and phones from Apple and Samsung likely won't have two displays that swing on a hinge. For starters, ZTE says that with Dual Mode, you can run two apps at a time, with one screen dedicated to each.

Axon M brings a breath of fresh air in an overcrowded industry that is populated mostly by lookalike metal-and-glass products. You can also watch two different videos on each screen and toggle the sound between them on the fly. Driving this innovation was research cited by ZTE that 68 percent of smartphone owners report "frequently" switching between multiple apps on their phone; thus, ZTE designed the Axon M's dual functionality. The Axon M has a single 20-megapixel camera that can be used for rear and front-facing photos.

ZTE launched the phone as it struggles for recognition in a smartphone space where models increasingly look the same, featuring large rectangular touchscreens powered by Google's free Android operating system.

The Axon M has only one variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The dual-displays allow being configured in four different ways, based on preference.

There's also a 3,180 mAh battery with USB-C providing power, something that seems pretty impressive considering all the extra tech packed inside of the 12.1mm body.
