So, what is causing the slow intake of the iPhone 8 among the American people, a market where the iPhone has generally performed much better than in other markets across the globe?

Pegatron, a contract assembler, fell as much as 2.6% in early Taipei trade while Catcher Technology slipped as much as 3.6%. Again, these rumors weren't backed up by any hard statistical evidence from Apple - but they all serve as fuel to the fire for those who are damning the iPhone 8's release as a failure.

Other analysts have cited newspaper reports from the Taiwan-based newspaper Economic Times, in which an unnamed source talked of a 50 percent cut in orders for the iPhone 8.

A recent report by KeyBanc Capital Analyst John Vinh said Apple's older iPhone 7 models are outselling the iPhone 8 ahead of the early November debut of the premium iPhone X.

The lowered orders mean shipments of iPhone 8 models could come in at just 5-million to 6-million per month in November and December, the newspaper reported without elaborating.

Apple and GE are making Predix available for iPad and iPhone via a new SDK for iOS, meaning developers have the tools to create Industrial Internet of Things apps on the Apple platform. Meanwhile, an optimistic report this week from research firm Gartner said the iPhone X will help increase smartphone sales in 2018.

Apple is reportedly having supplier issues with the new parts required for the iPhone X. The company is having trouble sourcing the Glass panels, Bloomberg reports.

Reports about low demand for the iPhone 8 were backed up by the fact that lines were shorter outside stores.

Considering that the iPhone 8 has only been around for about a month now, Cupertino has yet to release any figures regarding the sales of the phone.

"Apple is hoping the later availability date for iPhone X will not affect iPhone 8 sales this quarter", Ian Fogg, mobile and telecoms analyst at IHS has previously said. The iPhone X will be Apple's first iPhone to have an edge to edge screen and will not have a home button. "At $999, the iPhone X is priced to be a natural increment beyond the iPhone 8 Plus". "iPhone X establishes a new value level for Apple customers that want a premium, futuristic device".
