Margot Robbie slams 'bullsh--' hater logic in first I, Tonya teaser

The first trailer for Margot Robbie's forthcoming depiction of disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding has been revealed.

I, Tonya is fascinating, over-the-top, hilarious, and depressing all at once and was one of the highlights of the Toronto International Film Festival.

I, Tonya has just nabbed Robbie a Best Actress nomination at November's Gotham Awards.

If the trailer is any indication, then Robbie, who didn't know who Harding was when she first received the script, will play up on the figure skater's reputation. "And the haters always say, Tonya, tell the truth", over shots of Tonya performing that famous triple axel, the famous beating, a mustachio'd Sebastian Stan losing his temper, and paparazzi accosting the bleary-eyed skater.

As Harding and Kerrigan were competitors but also teammates, the attack left the nation reeling at the aggressiveness of the incident. "But they want someone to hate", Robbie says as a reenactment of Harding's historic completion of a triple axel at the 1991 World Figure Skating Championships flashes onscreen. Director Craig Gillespie really did a great job of capturing Harding's life and figure skating on the whole.

Here's the teaser. I, Tonya is released in Ireland on February 16th, 2018. "I mean, it's bullshit".

Robbie's Harding offers up a fresh take on the the disgraced figure skater, delivering a portrayal that is both ruthless, remorseless, dark, and surprisingly amusing. Like a train wreck or the media circus that surrounded Harding and Nancy Kerrigan during the 1994 Olympics, you can't help but stare.

I, Tonya is scheduled to be released on December 8, 2017.
