'Weak motherf--r': This is the target Lonzo Ball faces all season

That didn't stop LaVar Ball - the father of the Lakers rookie who has turned himself into a household name with his relentless, over-the-top promotion of his son - from trying to spin Lavar's performance during a wild postgame chat with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN.

Ball insisted his son played well. "That's what happens when you play in L.A.", Lonzo said. You said I can't, but I can.

"Rebounds! Physical!" Ball said, seeming just to shout out random words.

With 23.8 and 54.7 FanDuel points in his first and second National Basketball Association games, respectively, Ball is projected for 27.2 FanDuel points in 29.9 minutes Sunday versus the Pelicans.

To nobody's surprise, LaVar Ball made a decision to get in on the action, commenting on his son's monster game by saying that the Lakers have 49 more to go, referring to his previous statement that Lonzo would lead his team to at least 50 wins in his rookie season. Opposing guards already have all the motivation they need to come after Lonzo hard in every game, though I doubt any of them will be quite as suited for the job as Beverley is. "I told [Lonzo] after the game, man, [that] due to all the riffraff his dad brings, he's going to get a lot of people coming at him". Let's see what you do the next five games, if you are going to be pumped up towards everybody like that and go back to your 0-for-5 shooting and your two or three rebounds. Yeah, you shut him down. OK. "And your check still ain't going to go no higher than what it is".
