Police said that a 12-year-old boy jumped from an overpass in Fairfax, Virginia, and fell onto a vehicle, killing a driver.

A 12-year-old boy plunged from an overpass in Virginia in an apparent suicide attempt, killing a woman who was driving her SUV on the interstate below, police say. Harris' boyfriend was riding in the passenger seat and steered the vehicle after Harris was left incapacitated.

Patrick Harris, Marisa's father said in a statement that, "That's the irony that we're looking at right now". He is receiving treatment at a local hospital for life-threatening injuries. There is no word yet on his condition.

Told Marisa's mother, Leigh Miller, 'She was caring - I mean she had an absolute love for children'.

Following that, she was enrolled in her first year at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, where she had been studying clinical counseling.

Police are investigating the incident as a suicide, NBC notes.

Her parents said Harris had a passion for working with children with severe behavioral problems and the way she died is not lost on them.

He was uninjured, police said.

Bruce said that Harris grew up in Olney, Maryland and had traveled the world. The front-seat passenger was identified as her boyfriend. She wanted to devote her career to helping children, family members said. She graduated summa cum laude from Towson University before beginning the graduate program. So she got to know her classmates very well. "She was loved by her friends, she was dearly loved by her family, she was admired by her peers, and she was just a shining star".
