In fact, eight in 10 people this year can find plans for $75 a month or less.

One of the most important things to know about signing up for coverage for 2018 through the Affordable Care Act is the dates of open enrollment.

Wednesday marks the beginning of health care open enrollment, but experts say this year's process brings new challenges.

His goal in participating in the social media campaign is to help make sure that millions of Americans who aren't already insured understand that they still can get coverage through Healthcare.gov, a source close to Obama said. For many people, the increase in financial help will match dollar for dollar the premium increase, according to Jennifer Tolbert, director of State Health Reform at the Kaiser Family Foundation. There's also the deductible and co-insurance, which is the percentage of the bill a patient pays after the deductible is met. Meanwhile, the average lowest cost plan within each rating area is expected to increase by 17 percent in 2018.

Whereas a 2016 open enrollment email advertised that "n$3 ew, better or more affordable plans may be available to you", and "y$3 ou could save money by switching to a new plan", an email sent last week and obtained by the Post lacked any mention of cost savings.

In addition to the impact on individual consumers, increased premiums, especially for the benchmark plans, have major implications for the federal budget.

Subsidies - which are still available to those who qualify - are only available through the state exchange, but you can buy a plan on the exchange even if you don't qualify for subsidies.

"We have four plans in the Pima County Marketplace, Bronze, two Silver and one Gold", said Nancy Johnson, the Chief Operating Officer.

Almost half of counties in the USA are expected to have only one insurer offering plans in 2018.

The health law still requires most Americans to buy coverage that complies with the law or face a penalty that can top $1,000 depending on income.

People should sign up earlier to avoid a rush as the deadline approaches because high user volumes may slow the website down, Tolbert said. Navigators also say they get busy as the deadline approaches, making it harder to schedule appointments with them. The state has opened enrollment centers with staff to help consumers sort through their options and enroll, including one such center in Olympia operated by GHB Insurance.

Navigators from both organizations will be available to help the public at an enrollment event at Sacred Heart Hospital, 421 Chew St., from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. November 11.
