Under the new playoff system in college football, two semifinal games (tentatively scheduled to be the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl that season) will be played around New Year's Day - with the winners meeting inside Hard Rock Stadium the following week.

The new Los Angeles Stadium, which is set to open in 2020, has been named the host for the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Indianapolis will be the first city from the Midwest to host the event. "Those of us who have worked there for many years know that it's all about the people".

"The City of Inglewood is excited to be the home of college football's biggest event, the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2023", said Inglewood Mayor James Butts.

The CFP committee on Wednesday announced the sites for the 2021-24 title games, which range from coast to coast but will all be hosting the year-end showcase for the first time.

AT&T Stadium hosted the first championship game in January 2015 with the hopes of landing several more with the appeal of the stadium and central location of the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
