Sources tell CBS News that New York City police have brought prosecutors new rape allegations against Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

COPS in NY say they may have case against Harvey Weinstein over Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta's claims the Hollywood mogul raped her.

De la Huerta told the news outlet that Weinstein began calling her after the incident and that she confronted him a month later at a Los Angeles hotel. He also said that detectives had corroborated parts of her account, the Associated Press reported.

"We have an actual case here, so we are happy with where the investigation is right now".

NYPD detectives are reportedly putting evidence together for a criminal case.

De la Huerta told CBS News that the first rape occurred in October 2010 after Weinstein gave her a ride home from a party, insisted on having a drink in her apartment and forced himself on her.

"Immediately when we got inside the house, he started to kiss me and I kind of brushed [him] away", de la Huerta said.

Speaking at a news conference at Police Headquarters in Lower Manhattan on Friday afternoon, officials told The New York Times they were gathering evidence with an eye toward preparing a warrant to arrest Weinstein, whose representatives have said is undergoing therapy outside of New York.

Almost two months later, de la Huerta said Weinstein showed up in the lobby of her apartment one night.

In addition to the allegation of sexual assault from 2013, officers are investigating a misdemeanor lewd conduct charge that allegedly took place in 2015.

"As this is an active investigation", the statement continues, "we will not be commenting further".

The 65-year-old was seen in a pretty ineffective disguise at a Chestnut restaurant in Phoenix on Thursday night, where he could be seen wearing a blonde wig, orange make-up and a baseball cap.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has assigned a senior sex crimes prosecutor to the case, spokeswoman Joan Vollero said.

"We immediately contacted the district attorney in NY and we started working the case together".
