Longtime U.S. women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo says former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter sexually assaulted her at a 2013 awards ceremony, according to The Guardian. "It's been normalized", said Solo, who presented the FIFA's women's player of the year award in January 2013 and shared the stage with Blatter.

"Can-I-talk-about-that-" target="_blank">Expresso, Solo said, "I had Sepp Blatter grab my ass". "It was at the Ballon d'Or, right before I went on stage", Solo said.

Solo, who said she usually addresses harassment head on, said the circumstances prevented her from immediately confronting Blatter.

"I was in shock and completely thrown off", Solo told The Guardian, referring to the alleged assault.

According to The Guardian, Blatter has denied the incident taking place, saying: "This allegation is ridiculous". She had to pull herself together quickly to give the award to Wambach. I didn't get to tell him directly, 'Don't ever touch me!' That's the way I've always handled things.

For her career, Solo has made 202 total appearances with the national team, with 153 wins and an international-record 102 shutouts.

"I've seen it throughout my entire career and I wish more female athletes would speak out about their own experiences". That needs to change.

In 2004, Blatter was widely criticized for sexist comments about women's soccer.

"For years, in the past, female players date and end up marrying their college coaches, which obviously a coach should not be doing, especially with a young player".

Blatter was then one of soccer's most powerful figures; he has since been banned from Federation Internationale de Football Association amid a widespread corruption scandal. "They could, for example, have tighter shorts. That decision was taken to create a more female aesthetic, so why not do it in fashion?" I've seen it among players in the locker room.

Solo, who won the 2015 World Cup with the US, has been sidelined by an injury and has not played for the national team since a six-month suspension for criticizing opponents Sweden at the Olympics in 2016.
