In the USA state of Oklahoma, a local resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison for marriage with their own biological mother, reports the Tulsa World.

Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, 26, received a 10-year deferred sentence for illegally marrying 44-year-old Patricia Ann Spann, who went by Patricia Ann Clayton on their 2016 marriage license application, reported Tulsa World.

District Judge Ken Graham, according to court minutes, gave Misty Span a deferred sentence of 10 years, at least two of which must be under the supervision of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Misty Spann married her biological mother Patricia Ann Spann, 44, in March 2016.

The young woman claimed Patricia told her she had received legal advice about whether they could get hitched and assured Misty it could happen. It is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The marriage was annulled in 2010 after her son described it as incestuous, Tulsa World reported. According to local reports, Patricia allegedly married her son because he was in the military, and she wanted to prevent him from going overseas.

Patrica Spann is set to appear in court in January, 2018.

Patricia told authorities that she allegedly "looked into" wedding her daughter and determined, erroneously, that marrying Misty would not violate the law because her name was not on an amended birth certificate created when she lost custody of her children.

She says she only consented to getting married after her mother convinced her it was legally OK, saying she consulted three attorneys.

Misty and Jody's brother Cody Spann told KSWO that his mother manipulated both his sister and brother into marriage.

"I think she's just a sick, twisted individual that has something messed up in her head", Cody, 25, told PEOPLE last September. He filed for an annulment 15 months later citing "incest", according to a court papers.

"For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you?"
