The inevitable LaVar Ball vs. Donald Trump war of words is here

President Trump took to Twitter on Sunday, slamming LaVar Ball, the father of one of the UCLA basketball players detained in China on suspicion of shoplifting, after he questioned the commander-in-chief's role in returning the athletes home. They went to jail, but were released on bail, which is something that apparently indicated the Chinese authorities were taking a rather chill approach to all of this to begin with.

Freshman LiAngelo Ball was detained along with Jalen Hill and Cody Riley almost two weeks ago and returned last week after Trump said he had a long conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the incident.

"What was he over there for? Don't tell me nothing", Ball told ESPN on Friday.

"I'd also like to thank President Trump and the United States government for the help that they provided as well", LiAngelo Ball had said. "Be careful, there are many pitfalls on the long and winding road of life!" he wrote on Twitter.

President Trump arrived in Beijing (as previously scheduled as part of a two-week Asia trip) just a day after the incident occurred and worked with Chinese President Xi Jinping to secure their release.

Three University of California, Los Angeles basketball players were released from China last week after being arrested on shoplifting charges.

"Wannabe @Lakers coach, BIG MOUTH @Lavarbigballer knows if it weren't for President @realDonaldTrump, his son would be in China for a long, long, long time!".

Trump, a braggart and reality show star like Ball, did not take kindly to this. "I'm happy with how things were handled".

"Now if you can go back and say when he was 12 years old he was shoplifting and stealing cars and going wild, then that's a different thing". Like I told him, 'They try to make a big deal out of nothing sometimes.' I'm from L.A. And, in the end, that's surely exactly what Ball wanted. The university later announced that the players would be suspended indefinitely.
