Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had said that the film should not be screened till objectionable scenes are deleted.

"This is ridiculous. Chouhan made this announcement even before the movie was cleared by the Censor Board".

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Monday that the movie "Padmavati" will not be allowed to be released in the state as it distorted facts about "mata" Padmavati.

Addressing a gathering of Rajput community at his residence in Bhopal, Chouhan said, "It is being told that historical facts have been distorted and the exalted persona of Queen Padmavati maligned".

"I have myself studied history and even been to Chittor".

"Cinematic license does not give anyone the right to twist historical facts. Those, whose feeling are hurt by distortion of facts, have the right to protest", he said when asked to comment on the controversy over the movie. "Nobody will accept distortion of history and those who are protesting are rightly doing so", he tweeted.

An entirety of three states has prohibited the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's new release Padmavati.

Padmavati is also banned in UP and MP too.

If there are scenes breaching the honour of queen Padmavati, the movie will not be allowed to be exhibited in Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan said.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus has been marred in controversy that the film has "distorted" historical facts of Rajput queen Padmini.

This comes after the makers of "Padmavati" voluntarily deferred the release date of the film.

The release of Padmavati has been delayed for an indefinite period. Captain Amarinder Singh, the CM of Punjab, has slammed the film and praised the protestors. Ministers and erstwhile royals are also adding voice to the protest.

"Padmavati" features Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles.

Some Hindu groups, mainly the Karni Sena of Rajasthan, have been vigorously protesting against the movie's release while some political outfits have demanded that its release be deferred in view of the Gujarat Assembly elections.
