The DGP's tweet came on a day five militants were killed in two separate encounters by forces in Kashmir's Budgam and Baramulla districts.

Following specific information about the presence of militants, the security forces had surrounded the village.

The Budgam encounter began early morning following a tip off received by security forces last night.

"As the security forces closed in on the hiding militants, the security forces were fired upon, triggering the encounter".

According to statistics, 165 militants were killed by forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Kashmir hinterland in 2016.

In a separate clash reported from Zaloora top in Sagipora woods outside Sopore town, one militant has been killed and an Army para commando injured.

One security force personnel sustained injuries during the operation while eight civilians were injured in the action by the security forces against protesters who were trying to disrupt the anti-militancy operation.

"By the collective effort of Jammu and Kashmir police, Indian Army, CRPF and the people of Kashmir, we have led to the neutralisation of more than 200 terrorists in 2017 alone", S.P. Vaid, director general of police of Jammu and Kashmir said on Twitter.

Authorities suspended internet services in the district to prevent the spread of rumors, police said.

In another gunfight that erupted in the Sagipora village of the Sopore area in Baramulla district, one militant was killed and an army para-commando was injured.

The spokesman said 3 AK rifles, 3 AK magazines, 111 AK rounds and other ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. However the number dropped to around 100 per year by the end of 2015.
