On Sunday, the bowl game slate was revealed and it was announced that Michigan will be playing in the Outback Bowl on January 1, while Michigan State, who finished with a better record than the Wolverines AND beat them head-to-head, will be playing in the Holiday Bowl on December 28. Though the Outback Bowl is considered to be a better bowl, the Holiday Bowl features two ranked teams this year. The Cougars' opened the season with six-straight victories, including wins over No. 5 and No. 15 Stanford.

No. 16 Michigan State also comes into the game with a 9-3 record, winning three of their last four games, while the Cougars went 3-3 down the stretch, including a blowout loss to Washington in the Apple Cup.

The Spartans, of course, ended up in the Holiday Bowl Dec. 28 in San Diego, instead of playing in Tampa, Florida, on January 1.

Washington State fell to Minnesota last season in the Holiday Bowl. Washington State has scored at least 30 points eight times.

After Dantonio reacted to MSU's snub of getting relegated to the Holiday Bowl while MI took the Outback Bowl, Harbaugh reacted with a tweet.

However, the Aztecs program hit the skids soon after the bowl started, and didn't make its first and only appearance until 1986. WSU hadn't publicly addressed the rumors before Sunday, when Johnson spoke with reporters on the phone to discuss the Holiday Bowl.

"I just look at it as an opportunity to play in the Holiday Bowl", Dantonio said.

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl will be televised live nationally by FS1 from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif.
