A reporter asked Gronkowski if the hit was a culmination of feelings from the officiating toward him over the last couple years and the tight end answered, "Most of the past couple seven years (his entire career)".

Gronkowski apologized to White after the play but during the same comment said he was agitated because the rookie was holding him, and the three-time All-Pro pass-catcher said years' worth of frustration boiled over in that regrettable hit.

Gronkowski will appeal the punishment, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said after the game he was "not happy" with Gronkowski's hit and there was "no place in the game" for it.

A decision could come quickly, as several players suspended this season - Tampa's Mike Evans, Denver's Aqib Talib and Oakland's Michael Crabtree - were informed of their suspensions on Mondays. "I'm not in the business of that". "There was a lot of frustration".

"I definitely want to apologize to (White)", he said, in part (via NBC Sports Boston).

Gronkowski now has three days to decide whether he will issue an appeal of the one-game suspension that will be heard by either Derrick Brooks or James Thrash, who are the officers that were appointed jointly by the National Football League and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.

The NFL has begun a review of Rob Gronkowski's late hit on the the Bills' Tre'Davious White yesterday for potential disciplinary action, a source said.

At 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, he is bigger than the players trying to cover him, and he has increasingly complained that officials ignore interference by defenders because his size can make it seem inconsequential. On the play that resulted in the interception, he felt he was pushed and held. It was unclear what McDermott said to Belichick to elicit that response from the Patriots coach. It's like insane. Like, what am I supposed to do? And then they don't call that (on White).
