Evacuation Orders Issued for almost 200k as Los Angeles Fires Rage

In addition to the mandatory evacuations, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says a wider area on the east side of the pass has been advised to get ready in case of evacuation orders.

By midday, the fire had burned 11,000 acres and jumped the 210 Freeway.

Firefighting resources were stretched in as other fires, including the Creek Fire and the Thomas Fire, raged on elsewhere in Southern California.

Evacuation orders were lifted late Thursday afternoon for most of the Creek Fire-affected area, with the exception of parts of the Shadow Hills and Riverwood neighborhoods, as well as the Limekiln Canyon area.

"It's critical residents stay ready and evacuate immediately if told to do so".

"I went back to check the garage and then all of a sudden I felt some heat", George Stanley said.

The water-dropping planes and helicopters essential to taming and containing wildfires have been mostly grounded because it's too risky to fly them in the strong wind.

About 600 firefighters from multiple agencies were battling the inferno.

The Thomas Fire, which started at around 6:30pm Monday, is considered a wildfire, and was the first of the three to ignite.

One L.A. city firefighter was injured when a bulldozer rolled over.

Any area that has brush in the city is under threat, the chief said. Reed Gibson said he's lived at the ranch his whole life and has never had to evacuate horses due to fire, he said. The family that built the ranch more than 20 years ago was forced to flee the property when a fire crew arrived the morning of December 5. The family isn't sure what the future holds.

Lopez bought a $28 million estate in Bel Air previous year while Aniston owns a $20 million property in the neighborhood, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Photos and videos posted on social media from people near the Skirball Fire showed Armageddon-like conditions near the 405 Freeway. The Santa Barbara Unified School District also announced on its website that it was shutting down its 24 schools, which teach more than 15,000 students.

Evacuation centers have been established at Delano Recreation Center, 15100 Erwin St., Van Nuys; Balboa RC, 17015 Burbank Blvd., Van Nuys; Sherman Oaks RC, 14201 Huston St., Sherman Oaks; and Westwood RC, 1350 Sepulveda Blvd., Westwood.
