UK Dexter Fletcher to Direct Freddie Mercury Biopic

A handful of well-rated movies and history with 20th Century Fox preceded Dexter Fletcher's appointment as director on Queen's rock band biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. His experience in front of the camera will probably go a long way toward establishing a rapport with Malek, who reportedly clashed with Singer on multiple occasions.

Singer's departure was confirmed this week, with a source attributing his exit to "a pattern of unreliable behaviour on set".

By the early 2010s he was transitioning into directorial duties, steering 2011 prison parolee fatherhood drama Wild Bill, a 2013 adaptation of award-winning musical Sunshine on Leith and 2016 ski-jumping comedy biopic Eddie the Eagle, the last of which was distributed by Fox. A representative from the Directors Guild of America also arrived on set to monitor the situation.

According to Deadline, Singer did not return from Thanksgiving break and was not reachable for three days. While the star and director are said to have resolved their differences, the production, which has been shooting in London, was forced to shut down December 1 because of the director's absences.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a passion project of mine. He explained that the studio refused to give him some time off to deal with a very sick parent and with his own poor health. "I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen", Singer said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter, "but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first". Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services. So why not also make a film about Freddie Mercury?
