Terry spoke at length on why Jose Mourinho is the greatest manager he has ever worked with, while also outlining why he thinks the title-winning Chelsea side from 2004-05 would beat Pep Guardiola's high-flying Manchester City.

"Man City, I think he improves their starting XI, Man United certainly".

Terry ended his 19-year spell with Chelsea at the end of last season and opted to join Villa during the summer transfer window. He is the best surprise from the start of this season, despite his young age.

Terry said: "I'm going to say Lamps, aren't I?" I think the money we are speaking about is where we are at in today's market.

'He's a serious person, always committed in training sessions.

Conte was keen to stress the selections are based on merit - "I do not hand out stupid presents to people who don't deserve them", he said and pointed to Christensen's contribution at the heart of the defence as an example of an academy graduate taking his chance. When you start to play in a great club like Chelsea, the future is yours. Every game I've played Hazard, Pedro and Willian together, we've won.

The Bundesliga side seemed an ideal choice to provide the sort of solid base in which a top level prospect just emerging from his teens might take some important steps forward but things became more challenging as the club's campaign crumbled after Christmas threatening, for a while, to end their 32 year stay in the German top flight.

Meanwhile, Nathan Ake says he has nothing to prove to Conte despite Chelsea's decision to offload him in the summer.

Wednesday will be Ake's first return to Stamford Bridge since his summer move, but the Holland defender says his former club have barely crossed his mind.

The Aston Villa defender was not allowed to pick Chelsea players in his team, perhaps because they feared Terry would only choose Chelsea players, and most of his selections were unsurprising.

"But we had great legs, great power, and we had the big man up front".

But Terry believes Chelsea still have the second-best squad in the division.

'So it will be tough for us but mentally we need to prepare again and try to win the game'.
