Tuesday weather: Rainy and windy conditions return

Partly cloudy, dry and chilly for Christmas Afternoon. For this reason, my forecast does not go as extreme as some of the models indicate as far as cold temperatures are concerned.

On Sunday, the Triangle had a high of 51 and a low of 27. High temperatures by Saturday and Sunday will only reach into the low to mid 30s with lows in the upper teens and low 20s.

Showers ramp up and look likely for your Wednesday as our next system arrives in the morning hours. Highs in the upper 60s under partly sunny skies. Count on us here at KPLC to keep you updated. Friday and Saturday will bring more mild temperatures to the region, however, despite the damp period setting up.

Tonight: Just a few clouds around with breezy conditions from the west again (5 to 10 mph) as lows drift into the middle 30s in the outer suburbs to the middle 40s in the city.

"Temperatures generally not falling below eight to 11 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly breezes". Clouds return Wednesday along with a 70 percent chance of snow, mainly after noon and before midnight.

There is a serious boundary between warm air in New England, and much colder air across NY in Ontario by Saturday night. Most of the day Friday will be increasing cloud cover with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. A brief area of high pressure has been the story to a nice day in the mountains. An area of low pressure will then ride up the stalled front and hug the east coast for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Your 7-Day Planning Forecast includes Christmas!.so it's a flawless time to look at Wilmington's Christmas temperautre climatology. We'll have a dry airmass in place, so no snow, sleet, or freezing rain, despite the frigid temperatures. We turn very cold on Christmas day with flurries possible! We are watching the system closely for a light accumulation of snow by Christmas morning.
