Thursday started with plenty of sunshine across the mountains, which was a nice change to the forecast.

Tonight: Lows in the teens with increasing clouds.

Monday night, the low will be around 20 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are likely to struggle in low single figures even in the south. By the afternoon though, the rain chances go down, and we should have partly cloudy skies.

It will remain cloudy Friday and will be colder with high temperatures only reaching near 40 with a north wind up to 10 miles per hour. Once the rain chances arrive, they will stick in the forecast through Saturday.

While precipitation will be light and mostly in the form of rain, the region can still expect below normal temperatures for the holiday weekend and continuing into early next week. "There will be a swath of rain that produces 2-3+" somewhere in Kentucky.

Drizzle may persist behind the cold front as temperatures fall this evening, possibly leading to the development of black ice, especially on elevated surfaces, the weather service said.

Christmas Day will see mostly sunny skies, with a high near 37.

Met √Čireann is forecasting temperatures of between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius over Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day in Kilkenny.

It's a cold setup through next week with additional light snow chances. We should know a lot more about this system in the next 24 hours.

Plus, you can get the First Alert forecast every 10 minutes on Channel 27.3 Weather NOW. The bigger story will be decreasing temperatures throughout the day on Christmas. Low temperatures Friday morning should be in the upper 30s.

Again amounts don't look that high but it may be enough to shovel. Saturday evening, briefly just rain falls everywhere (aside from highest elevations which remain at a mix) before switching back over to snow with a few inches falling into Sunday morning.

Grand Island's monthlong spell of good December weather is coming to an end.

For now, let's stop here! Precipitation: Late afternoon and evening snow possible.
