"And to come here and to see the line clear up the road, you know they help out a lot and it makes me happy". "We can't do this without volunteers, there is just no way", Stewart said.

About four years ago, O'Mara started collecting donations during the holidays for the Salvation Army, she said.

The Salvation Army will serve its annual Christmas dinner to thousands at the Phoenix Convention Center's South Building, on the southeast corner of South 3rd Street and Washington Street, on Monday, Dec. 25.

The money raised is used to help people in need throughout the year. "The Department of Highways took four and Wilson Martino Dental took 10, so there is support there - we just need to get more".

"It's really rewarding", Wolfe Sr. said. It gives them a little bit better Christmas.

This year, two valuable coins have been dropped so far - an 1882 Morgan silver dollar and a 1915 five-dollar Indian Head gold coin.

The Salvation Army says a gold coin has been found in a red kettle in Kentucky.

The $85,000 deficit The Salvation Army faces will greatly impact the organizations' ability to serve the Greater Baton Rouge community. "People give when they don't have much, and they give it when they do".
