In total, Amazon said it sold "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices worldwide.

The e-tailer said that more than 4 million people sampled or purchased Prime memberships in a one-week period, which brought Amazon membership counts to a new high.

Amazon's own hardware products - including Alexa-enabled devices, Echo Dot and Fire TV Sticks - were ranked as the best-selling products from any manufacturer in any category across the entire Amazon platform.

This was Amazon's biggest holiday season to date, "with customers all around the world shopping at record levels", the company said in a press release.

In Europe, 10 fulfillment centers were able to complete more than 1 million packages in one day.

This combined with the fact that Amazon is the largest retailer in the world, makes being blacklisted a negative impact on sales even for a company of Google's size. Small businesses and entrepreneurs sold more than 1 billion items this season, including 140 million over the five-day Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday shopping period.

There were some pretty aggressive deals on Amazon's Echo devices in recent weeks, and so it's no surprise to hear that the Alexa-enabled hardware sold well, especially when it comes to the low-priced Echo Dot. More than 2 billion items sold this way globally previous year, according to Amazon, and 140 million items were sold this way from just Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. The company also sold twice as many Amazon Fire TV Sticks as a year ago, and almost two and a half times the number of Fire kids edition tablets. The most popular item viewed with AR view throughout this holiday season was a black chair with ottoman. Oh, and the most requested song from Alexa users this season? The East Coast of the USA requested holiday music from Alexa 250% more than the West Coast did.

Four times the amount of music was streamed over Alexa during the holiday season on a year-over-year basis.
