Erica Garner, the eldest daughter of the late Eric Garner - who died in 2014 after being put in a chokehold by NY police - has died.

Chokeholds are prohibited by the NYPD, and a ruling by the New York City medical examiner found Eric Garner died due to "compression of neck (choke hold)". "It really really was", a tweet posted to her account said.

When Erica Garner gave birth to a son in August, she named him after her father.

Her mother, Esaw Snipes-Garner, told the New York Daily News that her daughter's cardiac arrest was triggered by an asthma attack.

A Staten Island grand jury declined to indict Pantaleo.

Prior to her death, Erica was an outspoken critic of police brutality and state-sanctioned violence following the death of her father in July 2014.
