Serena Williams was "excited to be back" after completing her first match since giving birth fourth months ago. The goals change and I remember now how much I loved playing tennis - it isn't about winning every match I play in the future or winning more slams.

Ostapenko, 20, was just two-years-old when Williams won the first of her 23 grand slam titles in 1999 at the US Open.

Abu Dhabi: Jelena Ostapenko says she has nothing to lose and everything to gain when she takes on the returning former World No 1 Serena Williams in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

"Motherhood is phenomenal. I was a little anxious out there - I looked at my camp and asked, 'Is Olympia OK?" "I was a little anxious out there, I was like Olympia [who was in the spectator stands] is she okay?' I know that when I come back I definitely want to be competing for championships", Williams said after the match.

It was not unlike Andy Murray the previous day in that it took her four or five games to properly find her stride. Thank you guys. Thank you for the support. "The first match coming back is always super, incredibly hard especially after having a baby but it's great and I'm glad I could do it here".

The 36-year-old Williams, considered by many as one of the greatest tennis player of all-time, will be aiming to equal the record for the most Grand Slam wins (24) at next months the Australian Open.

Both players will feature on the final day regardless of the result, with the victor taking on either Dominic Thiem or Kevin Anderson in the final, while the loser will compete in the third-place play-off.

"It's too tough. I think everybody can look forward to a great and tense start of the season".

"We all know what Djokovic is capable of", said Austria's Thiem who is also playing in the six-man Abu Dhabi field.

Serena beat sister Venus in the 2017 Australian Open final to claim her seventh title in Melbourne.

Williams, seen on social media, has been actively doing physical activities to keep her in shape, but would be racing against time to be fit for the 2018 Australian Open where she will attempt to defend her title.
