Haley: Freedom Is 'Under Attack' in Iran, Leader's Statement Is 'Complete Nonsense'

"But in pursuing those things, Moon can not succumb to North Korean nuclear blackmail to weaken the South's military alliance with the United States - in the very same New Year's speech, Kim claimed to be able to hit the U.S. with a nuclear weapon".

During a news conference at the United Nations on Tuesday, Ambassador Haley applauded the Iranian uprising. "All freedom-loving people must stand with their cause", Nikki Haley told reporters at the UN's NY headquarters. They are virtually in every city in Iran.

"As we hear reports that North Korea might be preparing for another missile test, I hope that does not happen, but if it does we must bring even more measures to bear on the North Korean regime", Haley said.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley finished out 2017 by tweeting statement for support for Iranians protesting their government.

"This is the precise picture of a long oppressed people rising up against their dictators".

"The great Iranian people have been repressed for many years".

Haley warned that "more outrageous abuses" can be expected in the following days, given what she called the precedent set by the Iranian government.

Asked if the USA supports regime change in Iran, White House press spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told a press briefing: "We support them giving basic rights to the people of Iran and we support them stopping being a state sponsor of terror and we want to see those actions take place". The global community failed to do that in 2009.

However, the secretary of state said last month that the USA would be "ready to talk any time North Korea ... and we're ready to have the first meeting without precondition".

"The worldwide community failed to do that in 2009", she added, referring to Iran's Green Revolution. "We must not make that mistake again".

Haley also noted the US decision to cut aid to Pakistan, citing a "double game" in which Pakistan occasionally works with Washington while harboring terrorists that attack American troops in Afghanistan. We will die, but we'll take Iran back.

"Moon wants to host a peaceful 2018 Winter Olympic Games, as well as open direct dialogue with his neighbour", Scott Snyder, senior fellow for Korea studies and director of the programme on US-Korea policy at the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations, said in an opinion piece written for The Atlantic. We must not be silent.
