Paladins: Battlegrounds is being touted as the first hero shooter to be a part of the growing battle royale genre. A hundred players are dropped onto a large island map where they must scavenge for loot and survive to be the last hero standing.

For a game that left early access less than a month ago, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds sure is influential. It appears as though 2018 could turn into a veritable battle royale of battle royale games.

Paladins already combines some of the best of 2015's card battling gameplay and 2016's hero shooter mechanics, so the addition of 2017's battle royale gameplay makes some kind of sense. They can also explore the map aboard their mounts, looting any nearby outposts and following zeppelins that drop legendary gear.

This new game mode is expected to arrive sometime during 2018 and as previously stated, will be added to the game at no charge.

Paladins is a free-to-play game for PS4, so it's well worth checking out!

But what could set Paladins: Battlegrounds apart from the rest is that it's a hero shooter, and the characters will maintain their abilities and also be able to use mounts, just like in the base game.

In other Paladins news, Hi-Rez also announced a new team deathmatch mode, a new mobile spinoff called Paladins Strike and a new champion, Moji, who rides a two-headed turtle-like familiar named Po-Li.

With a debut trailer that may as well be called PaladinsUnknown Battlegrounds. We have to say, a Paladins style battle royale game sounds both intriguing and exciting and we'll definitely be trying it out. The last team standing is the victor.
