Two women die from flu virus in Tulare County

Health officials said 36 people have died from complications of the flu in Los Angeles County during the current flu season.

Local ER departments and outpatient clinics are also seeing very high volumes of patients, health officials said.

She says last year's flu-shot effectiveness "was between 40-and-50%; we're hoping similar or better this year". "It had just hit at that school and you know, you can't fault them for that, that's their most precious thing in the world".

Health officials locally and statewide said people who experience flu symptoms - fever, chills, sore throat, muscle aches, headaches or nasal congestion - should contact their doctor.

"Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect you, family members, and others from the flu and help keep our community healthy", said Cumberland County Health Director Mindy Doyle.

It's been a busy time for the hospital with all of the people stopping by the emergency room with flu like symptoms.


The last time they needed an extended treatment area was during the 2009 flu pandemic. "If a person has a flu-like illness without signs of serious illness, (they) should remain at home", he said.

"The circulation of Influenza B is not huge, it represents about 20 per cent of our cases", KFL&A Public Health's manager of infectious disease prevention, Adrienne Hansen-Taugher, said.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr S. Amin Tabish told Rising Kashmir that there was only one H1N1 positive patient at the isolation ward of the hospital at present and he is being treated.

"We're feeling this is even worse than that last one", he said, noting this is the worst flu outbreak he's seen since he started working in healthcare 13 years ago.

"The flu strain is different every year", she said. Some people, especially young children and people with weakened immune systems, might be able to infect others with flu viruses for an even longer time. In Ohio, adult deaths believed to be associated with the flu aren't required to be reported to public health agencies.

According to USA officials, the flu vaccine is still the best way to safeguard your immune system against influenza.
