The main topics of the talks were security and cross-border terrorism, the spokesperson pointed out.

The Government feels that though terror and talks (Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue) can not go together, it will not mind discussing issues pertaining to terrorism through various mechanisms. The spokesperson, however, made it clear that this should not be construed as dilution of India's position that talks and terror can not go together. The report, on December 31, said that while the meeting was held a day after retired Naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is on Death Row in Pakistan, met his wife and mother in Islamabad, it was "pre-scheduled" and not linked to Pakistan's treatment of Jadhav's family.

Mr Kumar said, terror and cross border terrorism were the focus of the talks.

When this question was posed to Kumar at the regular MEA briefing, the spokesperson said dates of such meetings are fixed days in advance.

The two women were humiliated and harassed by Pakistani diplomats and the media.

The Indian government confirmed today a recent secret meeting between senior officials of this country and Pakistan in Thailand to address several conflictive issues.

In fact, the two NSAs spoke shortly after the Pathankot attack in January 2016. CBD was launched by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during her visit to Islamabad on 9 December 2015.

Despite its position that there can not be any substantive dialogue with Pakistan until Islamabad acts against India-specific terror groups, the government has continued to maintain contact through its mission in Islamabad and also the Pakistan mission here. However, the mood for CBD is built up following similar NSA talks in 2015. They added Doval's tone and tenor was friendly and positive and the interaction might help in restarting some sort of engagement at the diplomatic level.
